On June 26, Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab announced a reduction in the fees for issuing or renewing passports or travel documents for Syrians and those with equivalent status, both abroad and inside Syria.
According to the decision, passport fees for Syrians abroad were reduced as follows:
- Express service: from $800 to $400
- Regular service: from $300 to $200
Inside Syria, the passport fee was reduced:
From 2 million to 1.6 million Syrian pounds
It’s noted that Syrian passport fees were among the highest globally for one of the world's least powerful passports. The fees had become a significant source of foreign currency revenue for the Ex Assad-regime, and a major burden for expatriates abroad and those wishing to travel within Syria.
