🌆 Damascus Renaissance – Key Urban Projects
1. ✈️ Damascus International Airport Expansion
- Goal: Transform the airport into a global hub with capacity for over 31 million passengers annually.
- Phases:
- Phase 1: New terminal for 10 million passengers.
- Phases 2 & 3: Each adds 7.5 million capacities.
- Renovation of terminals 1 & 2 to serve 6 million passengers.
- Design: Inspired by the Damascene steel sword, blending heritage with modern architecture.
- Facilities: VIP lounges, global restaurants, duty-free zones, smart infrastructure.
- Investment: $4 billion, with international partnerships.
2. 🚇 Damascus Metro – Green Line
- Route: From Muadamiya to Qaboun, spanning 26.5 km with 17 stations.
- Daily Capacity: Serves 750,000 passengers, including workers, students, and visitors.
- Infrastructure:
- Mixed execution: underground, elevated, and surface-level.
- Interchange hub in Soumariya with parking for 1,000 vehicles.
- Connects with Hijaz and Qaboun railway stations.
- Investment: $2 billion, supported by international agreements.
3. 🏙️ Royal Butterfly Towers
- Scope: Over 60 towers, each 25 stories, plus 4 signature towers reaching 45 stories.
- Residential Units: More than 20,000 apartments.
- Design Feature: 720 panoramic elevators forming the “legs” of butterfly-shaped towers.
- Amenities:
- Rooftop and indoor pools.
- Sports courts, international shooting and equestrian clubs.
- 18-hole golf course, hotels, malls, schools, and clinics.
- Investment: €2.5 billion, creating 200,000 jobs (100K in construction, 100K in operations).
- Developers: Italian company Obaco and Syrian partner Yobaco.
4. 🏗️ Baramkeh Towers Complex
- Type: Mixed-use residential, commercial, and tourism complex.
- Location: Central Damascus, in the Baramkeh district.
- Infrastructure: Supported by essential utilities—roads, electricity, water, and telecom.
- Investment in infrastructure: $400 million.
- Announced by: Syrian Ministry of Local Administration and Environment.
On August 6, 2025, the Syrian government signed a memorandum of understanding to implement 12 strategic investment projects with a total value of $14 billion.
These projects represent a qualitative leap in infrastructure and a pivotal step toward rebuilding the national economy. They will create hundreds of thousands of job opportunities for Syrians, strengthen trust between Syria and international investors, and affirm that Syria is open to global investment.
