Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab inaugurated the Women’s Police Academy yesterday, March 14, 2026.
The ministry’s Facebook page stated that the academy aims to train female recruits to handle social issues that require a women’s presence within police work, and to qualify them through specialized training programs that include police sciences, legal studies, and field skills.
The page added that the establishment of the academy also aims to strengthen the role of women within police and security work, and to expand their participation across various specialties.
The minister inspected the academy’s departments, including training halls, administration, and organizational sections. He reviewed the workflow and listened to explanations from those in charge about the approved training programs, qualification mechanisms for recruits, and work plans presented by the academy’s director, Brigadier General Huda Mahmoud Sarjawi.
The minister emphasized the importance of providing an integrated training environment that contributes to preparing female personnel equipped with professional competencies and the ability to perform their duties, in a way that enhances their role within the police institution.
Security and administrative leaders attended the inauguration.
Comments on the Interior Ministry’s post welcomed the step and considered it a pressing need to address issues related to women and children, noting the importance of strengthening women’s presence within an institution traditionally reliant on male personnel.
It is worth noting that after the fall of the Assad regime, the Syrian Interior Ministry opened the door for women to join the force several times and included a number of them, particularly in the tourism police.
